PRRS emerged in the late 1980’s it has grown to be a costly and difficult disease to control. It is currently estimated that PRRS has cost the swine industry $1 billion annually. Included in that estimate is production-related cost, veterinary cost, biosecurity, and other outbreak-related cost.
Elanco has just introduced “Prevacent PRRS”, which is a modified-live virus vaccine. Prevacent PRRS is for the respiratory form of PRRS that is safe for use in piglets 2 weeks of age or older.
The feed team recently attended a meeting with our Elanco representative, where we were introduced to the new vaccine which targets the lineage 1 line of PRRS. Lineage 1 is the major contemporary strain which accounts for 80% of cases today. The contemporary strain demonstrated cross-protection against multiple difficult viral strains, including those that may pose a threat to your operation. Prevacent PRRS is a timely-and effective-solution for your PRRS needs.
